#Firewatch ps4 softwareIn fact, given most new software is compatible with both old and new, the PS4 still has plenty of life left. I'd highly suggest it to anyone who's on the fence.Sony’s PS4 might be old hat now following the launch of the PS5 in 2019, but that doesn’t mean it’s been retired for everyone. The game left me with a better understanding of human interaction, relationships, and how we all deal with certain life events. With Firewatch, it's all about the story while the gameplay is stripped away to the most basic essentials. There are plenty of games with deep, intricate gameplay but weak story lines. However, instead of reading page for page, you're getting the story through pieces as you progress.įirewatch surprised me and exceeded my expectations in a positive way. Historically, how have people "escaped" their daily lives without death or drugs? Books! Firewatch is very similar in that regard. It plays out much more like a very good interactive book than a video game. It reminded me of Heavy Rain or Beyond Two Souls in that it changes what a "typical" video game is like. You're asked to make choices during many of the conversations, similar to the Mass Effect series. The majority of your actions will consist of exploring the forest, using a walkie talkie, climbing, or rappelling. The game plays out like reading a good book with each part leaving you wanting more. There's limited interaction with other people, no FPS action, no complicated inventory or alchemy system, and no real fetch quests. I should really emphasize that Firewatch is very tied to the story. You advance the story by going certain places or finding items. I felt the purchase price was worth it although I'd probably sell it in a slightly lower $10-$15 range. You're literally 1 man in the middle of nowhere and the feeling is captured very well. You control your character the whole time but it's very laid back. What do you actually do to advance the story? Do you control you character to go places? Im not sure what the exact interaction is with this game. I wished the ending was a little different but it wasn't horrible.Īwesome story that pulls you in! I really hope they give us a more involved sequel one day. Great job of making the player truly connect to their character and situation.Ĭons: It's way too short. Overall Pros: Great original story that pulls you in and makes you want to play on just to find out what happens. There are some questions left unanswered and outcomes I wish I had more control of. I'd love to see the story extended to better understand certain things that play out in this game. I'd really like to see a longer, more involved sequel in the future. The interaction between characters feels natural and fun the entire time. It's realistic and far from cheesy or feeling like a Hollywood script. The voice acting and writing is brilliant. There's a backstory but I won't spoil it for you here. You play as a man named Henry who is starting a new job in a national forest circa 1989. Without the words and voice acting, the story would've never come to life in the way it does. The interaction and banter between Henry and Delilah pretty much make the entire game. There's no crazy menu, no shooting people up, and no complicated puzzles. Firewatch is a great example of how a great story can help immerse you into a video game.
